DAY 1MUSCAT – NIZWA

On arrival into Muscat, depart for Nizwa stopping en-route at the attractive village of Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy a walk through the oasis and date plantations before continuing to Jabrin, home to Jabrin Castle considered by many to be the finest in all of Oman. Built in the 17th century, this stunning edifice was an important seat of Omani learning.

Visit Misfat Al Abriyeen, a mountain village and Wadi Nakher in the depth of Oman’s deepest canyon. From Oman’s highest peak – Jebel Shams – take in spectacular views of the region. Continue to Nizwa, capital of the interior, the birthplace of Islam in the Sultanate and an historic seat of learning and is now renowned for its 17th century round fort and Souk famous for intricately hand-carved khanjars (daggers) and ornamental silver jewellery.

Nizwa: Overnight at Golden Tulip Nizwa Hotel | Falaj Daris Hotel Nizwa | Al Diyar Hotel

Day 2NIZWA- SUR

Visit Nizwa Fort and the souk this morning before heading for the Sharqiya Sands, a vast sea of dunes rising up to 200m. The ever changing patterns and tones of the dunes are a photographer’s dream. Visit a Bedouin house here and learn about nomadic tribes in Oman.

In stark contrast to the desert is Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s most popular swimming spots with natural pools that snake between the walls of a stone canyon. Bring your swimmers and take a refreshing dip. Finally, head out to the port town of Sur, famous for its connection to the story of Sinbad the Sailor, its dhow-building yards and seafaring history.

In the evening visit the nearby turtle nesting grounds at Ras Al Jinz. By torchlight, watch giant sea turtles make their way slowly up the beach to lay and bury their eggs. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see one of the largest turtle reserves in the world.

Sur:  Overnight at Sur Beach Hotel | Sur Plaza Hotel | Al Ayjah Plaza Hotel | Rass Al Jinz Turtle Reserve | Turtle Beach Hotel.

DAY 3SUR - MUSCAT

Enjoy a morning tour of Sur. Stop at the fish jetty, the dhow yards and historic Sineslah Fort. Leaving Sur, take the coast road north-west back towards Muscat. Cool off with a memorable swim at the spectacular Fins Beach before continuing to the Bimah Sinkhole, a limestone crater with a sparkling blue-green pool.

Final points of interest include the attractive fishing village of Quriyat and the mango plantations at Hail Al Ghaf. Return to Muscat in the late afternoon and check in to your hotel.

DAY 4MUSCAT

Enjoy a half day tour of Muscat including the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque before heading to Mutrah to visit the Bait Al Zubair Museum, a photo stop by Qasr Al Alam (His Majesty’s Palace) and the vibrant fish market and lively Mutrah Souk.

Completed in 2001, the Grand Mosque stands proudly as a contemporary place of worship, serving as a spiritual landmark for modern Oman, projecting the values and aspirations of the Omani people. It is home to one of the largest Crystal Chandeliers in the world – weighing 8 tonnes and suspended from the 50 metre high central dome – as well as a hand stitched Persian carpet that took 600 weavers four years to make, measuring 70 by 60 metres and weighs over 21 tonnes.

In the early evening, board a luxury vessel for an unforgettable Muscat sunset cruise in the waters, coves and inlets of this fascinating city.
