A Retreat For Body and Soul

Indulge in a journey for all the senses. In Oman you’ll be seduced by scents, dazzled by the landscape and culture and, if you so desire, pampered at every turn.

Handpicked-Oman-257x240px-4It comes from the country’s high plateaus, 2000 metres above sea level. Here, at Jabal Akhdar, the cool climate is ideal for the propagation of roses, which bloom for a two-week period between March and April. Visit during this time and you’ll be intoxicated by the gorgeous fragrance filling the air. The petals of the roses are harvested by local villagers and distilled to make attar, Oman’s famous rose oil. While the scent uplifts the senses – apply a drop to your forehead, neck and wrists – in Oman it is also often used during a meal, sometimes in a dish, particularly confectionery, but also sprinkled on guests to honour them.

Seaside massage at Shangri-La's Al Husn Hotel, Muscat.

Chances are you might also encounter attar during a relaxing massage or body treatment at one of the many five- and six-star hotels dotted around the country. There’s nothing quite like reclining on a private beach after a long day exploring, the last rays of the sun warming your back, and having a masseuse knead knotted muscles into submission. It’s just one of the luxe experiences on offer at the Al Husn Hotel at Shangri-La's Barr al Jissa Resort, Muscat.

For lovers of luxury, it doesn’t end there. Devour degustation menus at world-class restaurants, sail sparkling seas on jaw-dropping yachts or get swinging on the Greg Norman–designed championship course at The Wave Muscat’s Almouj Golf. This is life as it’s meant to lived.
